Szept
Secure messenger with end-to-end encryption
A private messenger — HD voice calls (one-to-one and group) and text messages, all end-to-end encrypted. You host the server yourself and it only relays encrypted data — it never knows the content of your calls or messages.
What it does
- HD-quality voice calls — one-to-one and group, both sides heard at once
- Text messages 1:1 and group, delivered even when the recipient is offline
- End-to-end encrypted always — and resistant to quantum computers, for confidentiality that lasts
- Keys are created on your phone and never leave it
- Verify a contact with a QR code or a code read aloud — certainty about who's on the other end
- An alert when a contact's keys change — e.g. after switching phones
- Screenshots and screen recording blocked — like in banking apps
- Your own server, no third-party companies in the data path
Szept is a messenger that doesn't live in someone else's cloud: you run it on your own server, and everything that passes through it is encrypted so that the server itself cannot read it. The core of its call encryption comes from TETRA communications proven in production on the TetraPoland network.
Certainty about who you're talking to
You verify a contact's identity once — by scanning their QR code or comparing a short code aloud. From then on the app watches the keys: if they change (a contact moved to a new phone, or someone tries to impersonate them), you get an alert before you send anything further.
Small things that make a difference
- The screen is protected like in banking apps — no screenshots or recording, and the app switcher shows a blank card instead of your conversation
- App lock with a fingerprint or PIN — even when the phone is unlocked, Szept stays closed until you confirm
- Disappearing messages — set a lifetime after which they delete themselves on both sides
Getting started
- You enter the server address and your phone number
- You confirm the number with a code — by SMS or an invite from the administrator (works from day one, no SMS gateway needed)
- Keys are generated on the phone; contacts who also have an account show up automatically
In development
- An iOS app alongside Android
- Voice calls directly between phones where the network allows
